Forums > General > Orientation Failure results in No Panoramas Saved

How in the world are you all orienting your photos? I keep getting to the screen with the following message:

How to orientate?
1. Find and click the direction of the left side of your panorama
2. Find and click the direction of the right side of your panorama

This isn't very clear at all. What does "click the direction of" mean? Does that mean click anywhere on the image, hold, and drag towards the left or right side? Or does that mean just single-click on the left or right side (in which "the direction of" wouldn't be necessary). Besides, this whole thing seems silly to "Find and click" the left or right side of the image in the first place. Isn't the left side always... on the left side, and the right side always... on the right side. It wasn't asking me to click on north east west or south. What does left and right of the image have to do with real world compass headings?

In any case, every time I upload an image my panorama is displaying with completely incorrect compass headings and moving automatically. I've tried both the click and drag technique and the single click technique and in both cases nothing happens except the image stops moving automatically. The compass headings never change no matter where or how I click? What is supposed to happen so I know what to expect?

After nothing happens I go to my account but it always says I have never uploaded any panoramas. I assume this is because I was unable to orientate the panorama? Or is there supposed to be a "submit" or "done" button that is not showing up for me? And I read in another thread that to re-orientate (assuming you've orientated previously) I should just hit the edit button beneath the map, but there is no edit button showing up beneath the map, so that's even more confusing.

Bottom line is that even if my panoramas are completely mis-oriented, I can't even get them to save. What's the deal?

Hi hopanthers,

Hmm... Not sure what's the problem. After the second click you should be redirected automatically to the page with your panorama.

I tried to explain the proccess in this blog post: panoye.com/blog/2009/06/orient...

BTW. Do you have any full cylindrical panorama to try uploading? Just to see if the problems is only for partial panoramas or even for cylindrical...

Cheers,
tk

Thanks for the blog post. Very informative. Now I understand. The instructions say to "Find and click the direction of the left side of your panorama" so I was doing what it said and was clicking on the left side OF THE PANORAMA, not on the map. This is why the directions made no sense to me, yet the instructions never mentioned the map. Thanks for clearing that up.
