Forums > General > Orientation ideas?

I know orientation of the panorama is the most complicated part of the upload, but... I'm still not sure how to make it simpler.

Any ideas on how to make the process of panorama-orientation easier?

I don't find that so complicated but perhaps allow customer choise to orientate or not pano when they upload one.
If they don't, you won't display neighbour on pano neither compass in it :)
What do you think ?

I think there's no a better way to orient panos; at least I don't know a better one.

@Vincen: Good idea!

@Bernie: Yep, I agree for 360-degree panoramas, but partial panoramas are different...

just ask to everyone to place one of the following points (North, South, East or West)in the pano. Another idea is to propose that the 1st picture to take will point to one of this points.

The most annoying of the process is that you only have one oportunity to click on the right direction. I think it would better a button outside the map to confirm when the orientation process is done by the user, so he can correct this as needed prior to confirm.
Un saludo.

By the way, you can alwas repeat the orientation process by clicking on "edit" (below the map). But, you're right, it would be much easier with the confirmation. I'll put it in my TO-DO list for the next upgrade of panoye.

Thanks!

When orientating 360º panoramas, what do you mean with "hot-spot"? any place in the direction you focus the panorama? or you have to focus panorama and find in the map one of the places that appears over the panorama (with distance) and click in it? These red markers appear in the map on main window but not when orientating.

I try to do both ways but panorama seems to be orientated just the reverse of correct way.

Hot spot is two things: The place in the direction you focus the panorama AND the direction on the map. So, you must do two things:

1. Rotate the panorama to the direction you can find on the map (The hot spot of this panorama) and then stop it there.

2. Click on the map on any point in that same direction.

So, the current direction of the panorama and the direction clicked on the map must match.

For me it seems to orientate the opposite, like someone mentioned above. Very confusing. I didn't know what a "hotspot" was in the beginning. Why can't I just choose which direction is North??? That would be easier. Also a confirmation button, so I don't have to go back in and edit through 3 stages before reclicking on the map.

Thanks.
