Would be great to "fetch" pics from Flickr. I bet many of your users have Flickr accounts, and there's no sense on duplicating the upload procedures accross sites.
I'm not sure of how exactly Flickr let's others webservices use the pics stored at their servers, but if you would be allowed just to refere to them, then you would be also saving precious space and bandwidth on your server.
I guess it's possible cause there's other services around that mash-up Flickr images with other data, and add presentation value.

This way, one of your users could open up an account and just "refer" his/her own images from Flickr and start "orientating" them through your simple but great solution. Then they would be available as well on your system as symbolic links, but open to comments and all the other social features that could be planned.

I'll be short because I'm on vacations at the moment.

Your idea is very interesting. It definitely is possible, but I still don't know how to do it. I'll look at flickr's public API next month and see what to do.
