Forums > Feedback > Something strange with my latest pano :/
Hi,
I just posted a new pano but result on website is strange. It's down under roof if you understand what I mean ! panoye.com/panorama-show.305.h...
My picture is complete as it's a 360º pano but here it cuts very down in the upper part :(
Any idea what's wrong ?
Thanks
Vincèn
Vincen,
This is something I have been thinking about for months. Let me try to explain...
First there is the fact that with ratio 2:1 (for spherical panoramas) the scroll interval would be very small. (With "scroll interval" i mean -> how many pixels of scrolling before the panorama will return to the starting point).
The second (and more important) reason is that equirectangular spherical images have a ratio width:height=2:1. But, the highest and lowest parts are very distorted. They are not distorted using java applet viewer (you can try it - there is a link at the right side of the panorama) or flash or quicktime. But plain image -- the distortion is visible. That is why it looks very strange with javascript viewer.
So, I had to decide to crop the images for the javascript viewer.
I configured the app to crop every image to 4:1. With most panoramas this is nor a problem -- since they have a ration n:1 where n>4. But with spherical sometimes is.
Sorry for all this math about ratios (I worked as a elementary school math teacher for 5 years, it's part of me ;-))...
What can we do about this problem? Here are my options:
a) Let the spherical images show how they are. Without the crop. (with distortions at the top and bottom).
b) Chenge the crop ratio (and then re-create all spherical images on panoye). For example, we can choose to show all but the top and bottom 10% of the image.
c) Leave as it is now.
If you think the current situation is a problem -- I would vote for b). If you agree, let's start a discussion on the ideal crop ratio for spherical panoramas...
What do you think?
I am wondering if maybe taking more pictures befor blending them would help. Or is it just the type of panorama that they are making? Chuck
